Minecraft Server Moved!

The Minecraft server has moved hosts over to n00bfest’s main server box! This is great, because this means that once I’m gone, the server will remain up so everyone can play on it. This also means I can focus more processing power to the Natural Selection 2 dedicated server.

Head over to the Minecraft project page to get the new address or simply use: minecraft.n00bfest.com as the new host. It is no longer minecraft.electricimpulse.net. This also means there’ll be much less lag on the server. Hope you guys enjoy it. We’re also working on getting iConomy running full speed, and updating the bukkit build. I’ve been keeping a close eye on the plugin versions to update them, but there’s no updates so far. I’ll update them as soon as I see a new version come out. Once we get bukkit updated, new plugin versions updated, and iConomy working, we’ll start looking into new plugins or mods that seem feasible to the server. I’ll have another update soon.

Fresh Start on Minecraft

Sometime this coming week, I’ll be resetting the entire map on the Minecraft server. I know many of you will be sad that your creations won’t be there, but I’ve got some good news. I’m actually saving the old map, and I’ll send it to any of you who want it. You will be able to continue work in single player if you choose to. However, I’m giving us a brand new start on the multiplayer server. The reason behind this is that with the 1.6 patch, working biomes were introduced, and unfortunately, after the fact that we’ve built our entire cities and structures and what-have-you all around have turned to snow and ice areas. This is really a pain in the ass, but it gives us a chance to start fresh with a much cooler map with more features! I’d like everyone to at least acknowledge somehow that they’ve read this so I can be sure everyone is aware that I can send them the old map so they can view what we’ve done at any time! I plan on doing this for any map reset. If you’re eager to have the reset as I am, then note that the faster I get acknowledgement from you guys, the faster I’ll reset the server. I want to make sure everyone who plays on the server knows before it happens, that’s really the only fair thing to do.

Thoughts on Windows 8

So Microsoft just showcased the new Windows Shell at the D9 (AllThingsD) Conference the other day and the implications are huge. The real thrust of the demos were the new Windows UX for touch displays. It’s all based on the Metro UI with a Windows Media Center like overlay and it’s endgame is to blur the line between an embedded OS (like for a smartphone or an ARM tablet) to a more traditional OS for Slate PC’s, laptops and desktops.
