Tonight I updated the Minecraft server to 1.6.6. It’s using the newest version of the minecraft_server.jar, bukkit mod, and essentials dev build plugin. The rest of the plugins seem to be working fine, however, you may still experience bugs along the way. In an effort to make sure the server is playable, I’m asking you all report bugs by responding to this post. If something doesn’t work right, is completely broken or a feature doesn’t work correctly, please report it. As new versions of the current plugins are developed, I’ll be adding them instantly on day of their availability. The server is up and running, and does appear to be pretty stable as I’ve tested some basic commands out. It’s now safe to update your Minecraft clients to 1.6.6. In the event that a server instability issue comes up, and the need to downgrade is necessary, I’ll inform you all before-hand. In previous posts I’ve provided tools to help you downgrade Minecraft to 1.5 so you aren’t lost. As always, I’ll always respond to emails or posts here. Have fun, and let’s hope she stays stable!

Things I already know:

Instabreak is currently broken.

MagicCarpet “jump” is hitchy.

Yes, many of you did it. You know who you are! If you updated your Minecraft to 1.6.x then you probably aren’t too happy to notice some of your multiplayer features aren’t working or that your server administrator hasn’t updated. While this download I’m about to give you doesn’t fix or revert your server back to 1.5, it will revert your client back to 1.5_01 to work with any Minecraft 1.5_01 server. Here’s how to fix your Minecarftz’:

(Note: You’ll need WinRAR to extract this file. You can get it here: www.rarlabs.com)

Step 1:

Download the Minecraft-1.5_01 RAR file

Step 2:

Extract the folder to your desktop.

Step 3:

Navigate to your “appdata” folder. You can find this folder by hitting Start, Run, and typing %appdata% into the search box. This should open the appdata folder.  Inside that folder look for another folder called .minecraft. Open this folder up.

Step 4:

Cut and paste the bin folder on your desktop inside of the .minecraft folder. Be sure to overwrite the old file when prompted, and that you don’t place the new bin folder inside the old bin folder, otherwise your client will not revert. In that case, you’ll have two bin folders inside your .minecraft folder, and it’ll just be taking up space on your drive.

Step 5:

Profit. Go play and enjoy a working, fully-featured Minecraft again!

Sup, my name is superterran and i’m a computer geek and programer. Please excuse the mess as i’m just getting moved in but great things are afoot. In time, I hope to not only throw all the goodies I’ve made on this site (come check out my projects page http://electricimpulse.net/superterran/projects/ for details), but also share my perspectives and nerdiness on tech and all things nerdy.

a little about myself: i’m a developer with game in several languages and platforms, right now i’m focusing on LAMP but I just go where i’m interested. I’m also a gadget fiend; i go through phones and tablets like they’re nothing. I grew up with computers and technology so I won’t even embarrass myself  by explaining how pimped out all the rest of my setup is.  Suffice to say, i’m something of a technologist and I plan to hold none of it back here.

I’ve known Acid for like a decade now. He’s an incredibly talented guy who clearly knows his craft. It’s my hope that we can turn Electric Impulse into a tight nit community of of other powerful talents who want to share their work and knowledge with the world. I don’t want to get ahead of myself though. Let’s just say I got big plans. Acid’s probably wishing he didn’t give me the keys to the castle…

Changes: 5/25/11

I just upgraded the machine from 6GB to 12GB RAM.  You should be seeing a great performance increase, and less down-time due to the fact that I can run the server without any interference with other work! Today should be the release date for Minecraft 1.6, but it looks like it may be Thursday now according to Notch’s tweet:

notch Markus Persson

“1.6 is aimed at Wednesday. Which means we’ll probably release it late Thursday. ;)

EDIT: No later than five minutes after writing this post, an update came through Twitter from notch:

notch Markus Persson

1.6 releases early tomorrow morning! I got some help testing it via irc. Thanks! :)

So, indeed, early morning will be the release for 1.6. If you’re a Minecraft host, keep an eye on those plugin updates!

As for my server, once the patch is live, you’ll need to give me some time to adjust the plugins that work from the ones that don’t. There may or may not be new releases that work with 1.6, but this is a huge patch, and I’m expecting the server to be down for quite some time… maybe even a full day due to all the plugin adjustments, updates, removals, etc. I will test the server in its current state after the patch, but there’s a good possibility that I’ll have to wait to start the server up at all until the new bukkit mod is released. I’ll keep you all informed.

There is a possibility that the n00bfest.com Minecraft Server will be down or won’t be fully functional until the plugins get updated. Keep an eye out in the Minecraft projects page for updates as I will be updating all plugins as new versions become available. Please be patient, as we have to rely on the plugin developers to release the updates. This is out of my hands. I will, however, keep everyone posted. Now for the changes!
